1b. Sarcostemma viminale subsp. stocksii (Hook. f.) Ali, comb. et stat. nov.
Vern.: Phok.

S.I. ALI

 Sarcostemma stocksii Hook. f.
Stems cylindrical, 3-7 mm in diameter, green, glabrous. Flowers as in the preceding subspecies. Follicles 5.6-8.8 cm long, cylindric, straight, almost the same breadth throughout except towards the apex, much divaricate, sometimes both the follicles are in one straight line. Seeds 6-7 mm long, narrowly oblong, apex truncate. Coma c. 2.5 cm long.

Fl. Per.: July-September.
Type: Sind, Stocks 509 (K).
Distribution: Pakistan (Sind), India (Deccan, Poona, Gujrat and Dharwar).
The genus Sarcostemma needs careful revision. I have accepted Sarcostemma viminale (Linn.) R.Br. in a broader sense including the taxa met with in India and Pakistan.
