Annual, erect, glabrous, up to 45 cm herb with 4-5-angled geniculate shoots. Leaves on 8-10 mm long, glabrous petiole; lamina oblong-elliptic to ovate or ± obovate, 2-4 x 1-2 cm, glabrous on both sides, entire, obtuse, basally attenuate to petiole. Inflorescence a terminal, 2-5 cm long spike. Flowers pinkish-purple, 6-7 mm long, subsessile; brats linear-lanceolate, 6-8 mm long, ± scabrid, scarious margined, obtuse; bracteoles similar to bracts, smaller in size. Calyx 4-lobed to base, lobes linear-lanceolate, c. 4 mm long, whitish and setulose on margins, obtuse, mucronulate. Corolla tube cylindrical, c. 2.5 mm long; upper lip emarginate, as long as tube, lower lip 3-lobed, patent, c. 3.5 mm long, glabrous. Staminal filaments c. 3 mm long. Ovary oblong, hairy at apex, style c. 4 mm long. Capsule oblong, c. 5 mm long, glabrous, mucronate, ± stipitate. Seeds rugose, c. 1.5 mm long.

Type: ‘Habitat in India Orientali’.
Distribution: Afghanistan, Pakistan and N. India.
