Ruellia longifolia (Stocks) T. Anders.
An erect, up to 70 cm tall, basally woody, much branched, glandular-pubescent shrublet with ± quadrangular twigs. Leaves subsessile, lamina linear-lanceolate, 3-5.5 cm x 4-6 mm, attenuate, densely lineolate, entire, acute. Flowers purple or bluish-purple, shortly pedicellate, c. 2.5 cm long, mostly solitary axillary; bracts absent, bracteoles linear-oblanceolate, 1.6-1.8 cm x c. 2 mm, acute, hairy. Calyx lobes linear, 6-8 mm long; strigose hairy. Corolla pubescent outside, tube infundibuliform, c. 1.2 cm long, limb lobes 8-10 mm long, obtuse, patent. Stamens included, filaments glabrous. Ovary pubescent, style filiform, c. 2 cm long, puberulous. Capsule clavate, 1.5-1.8 cm long, hairy, acute, 8-seeded. Seeds broadly ellipsoid, compressed, beset all over with glisten¬ing white hygroscopic hairs.
