Type: ‘Habitat in Novae Hollandiae littore intra tropicum’, Coll. Ignot. (BM, G-DC).
Distribution: E. Africa, Pakistan, India, Kampuchea, Australia.
The subspecies paniculatum differs from the type subspecies in having a larger calyx and corolla tube which ± equalls calyx length and does not exceed it. The type subspecies is confined to Sri Lanka and S. India.
