1b. Paracaryum rugulosum var. platycalyx (Riedl) Y. Nasir, comb. et stat. nov.
YASIN J. NASIR
Paracaryum platycalyx Riedl
Barely differing from the type variety but with larger nutlets, longer pedicels and a calyx which is accrescent in fruit.
Fl. Per.: March-April.
Type: Afghanistan, Herat, Jija, 900 m, Koeie 4404 (W).
Distribution: Afghanistan, Pakistan.
Mature fruiting material is desirable for proper identification, but I do not think that Paracaryum platycalyx is sufficently distinct from Paracaryum rugulosum to warrant specific status. The following gatherings from Baluchistan approach the type variety: Ali 24; Dick-Peddle 313; R.R. Stewart 764; 28308; 28288; M. Yahya 26, J. Lamond 1093.
