Differing from the type variety in the fruit with slender and more numerous appendages and the middle dorsal area of the longer nutlet pair with 2-3 parallel rows of appendages.

Type: ‘Siberia altaica orientalis’, Karelia & Kiriloff 1751 (G, F).
Distribution: Iran, Afghanistan, URSS, Pakistan.
Previously considered as a distinct species but apart from the fruit characters there are no substantial differences. Found in drier areas up to 1900 m.
