7. Nepeta subincisa Benth. in DC., Prodr. 12: 373. 1848. Rech. f., Fl. Iran. 150: 119. 1982.
I.C. Hedge
Nepeta elliptica* auctt. p.p. non Benth.: Hedge & LamondNepeta podostachys** auctt. p.p. non Benth.: Hedge & Lamond
Similar to Nepeta paulsenii in habit, inflorescence, bract, calyx and corolla characters, but with a denser villous indumentums and ovate-triangular leaves, c. 10 x 8 mm, with a serrate or subpectinate margin.
Fl. Per.: June-July.
Holotype: [Afghanistan, Bamian, Erak] In regno Cabulico, Griffith (K!).
Distribution: Afghanistan and adjacent areas of Pakistan.
This is a widespread taxon in Afghanistan known from a larger number of gatherings. In following Rechinger (l.c.) by recognizing it at specific rank, I was influenced by the relative constancy of the afghan specimens as regards leaf shape and serration. But it is very close to Nepeta paulsenii, Nepeta Podostachys and Nepeta elliptica.
