3a. Breynia disticha var. disticha forma nivosa (Bull) Croizat ex A.R.-Smith in Kew Bull. 35(3): 498. 1980.

A. RADCLIFFE-SMITH

  • Breynia nivosa (Bull) Small
  • Phyllanthus nivosus Bull

Very like Breynia cernua, but this form is readily distinguishable on account of the variegated foliage, which may have a ground-colour of olive-green, grey-green or bluish-green above, paler beneath, tinged with reddish-brown, edged or blotched with creamy-white, white with small dark flecks, entirely white, white suffused with pink or entirely reddish-pink.

    Fl. Per.: January (cult.)

Type: Illustration by W.G. Smith in Flor. Mag. n.s. 30: t. 120 (1874), based on material obtained by Bull from Tana I., New Hebrides.

Distribution: New Hebrides; widely cultivated in the tropics generally. The `Snow-bush'.
