Gentiana decemfida var. aprica (Decne.) Clarke
Annual, erect, up to 20 (-25) cm high herb. Stem simple or branched, branches numerous, reddish brown. Basal leaves 0.7-2.0(-2.5) x 0.3-1.25 cm, ovate, margin cartilaginous, entire, long acuminate. Cauline leaves 0.4-1.2 x 0.05-0.4 cm, lanceolate, marginate, margin stiff and cartilaginous, entire, long acuminate. Inflorescence racemose, axillary on branches arising from axils of leaves on main stem. Flowers solitary, pedicellate, 0.7-1.5 cm long. Calyx less then half the length of corolla, 0.5-0.9(-1.0) cm, tube half the length, lobes lanceolate, acute, papillate(-dentate). Corolla 0.7-13 cm long, tube three times the length of lobes, 0.5-1.25 cm long, lobes 0.25-0.5 x 0.1-0.2 cm, ovate, mucronate, entire, plicae half the size of corolla lobes, equal, entire, acute, bibbed. Stamens 5, filaments slender, connate at 1/3 the length of corolla tube, anthers dorsifixed, sagittate, bibbed Ovary 0.25-03 x 0.1-0.2 cm, lanceolate-oblanceolate, slightly stalked, style present stigma bibbed, coiled. Nectaries present at the base of ovary. Capsule subexserted-exserted, 03-0.6 x 0.15-0.2 cm, oblanceolate, many seeded, seeds trigonous, minute, dark brown, very finely reticulated
Type: In locis humidis apricis Keyri-Pass, prope Hazeronbag. Floral fructumque profert ineunte Aprili, lacquemont 341 (P!).
Distribution: Kashmir, India to Nepal. A rare species in our area.
A Sino-Japanese element, restricted to Himalayas, does not exceed beyond Nepal in the east and into Kashmir or upper Punjab in the west.
Very closely allied to Gentianodes decemfida (Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don) Omer et al. but differs in h aving calyx almost half the length of corolla, wh ereas, the calyx is more than half or ± slightly shorter than corolla in Gentianodes aprica (Decne.) Omer et al.
