Swertia coerulea Royle
Erect, perennial, rhizomatous, glabrous herb. Stem simple or branched from base or above. Leaves basal as well as cauline. Basal leaves and lower cauline leaves long petiolate, 1-4.5 x 0.2-1.25 cm, ovate-elliptic, spathulate or obovate, obtuse, entire, 3-5 nerved. Cauline leaves shortly petiolate or subsessile, petiole gradually decreasing into a tube with leaves of opposite side, 1-4 x 0.3-0.6 cm, lanceolate-oblong or elliptic, acute, entire. Inflorescence axillary or terminal. Flowers 5 merous, up to 3.0 cm long, long pedicellate, single, pedicel 0.8-3.0 cm long. Calyx unequal, 5 lobed, tube shorter than lobes, c. 0.2-0.4 cm long, lobes 0.5-1.0 x 0.2-0.4 cm, linear-lanceolate, acute, entire. Corolla blue-dark blue, parted to the base, lobes 1-3.0 x 0.5-0.8 (-1.0) cm, elliptic-ovate or oblanceolate, acuitish. Stamens 5, filaments inserted near the middle of corolla lobes or above, encircled by fimbriae at the base, anthers sagittate, dorsifixed. Ovary 0.75-1.5 x 0.2-0.4 cm, elliptic, sessile, style absent, stigma small. Capsule 1.0-2.0 x 0.4-0.8 cm, elliptic, many seeded. Seeds small, reticulated.
