Leaves: petioles 2–4 mm; blades lanceolate, mostly 12–40 × 3–10 mm, margins usually sinuate-dentate, rarely entire. Cypselae 1.2–1.6 mm, ciliate or not, tips of cilia recurved; pappi 0 or of 1–2 bristles. 2n = 26, 52.
Flowering May–Sep. Disturbed sites; introduced; 0–10 m; Fla., Ga., N.C., S.C.; South America.
