Heads (12–)30–50. Phyllaries ± 13, 7–9 mm. Ray florets ± 8; corolla laminae 7–10 mm. Disc florets 20–40+.
Flowering summer. Stream banks, wet sites, open coniferous woodlands; of conservation concern; 2500–3200 m; Colo., Utah, Wyo.
Variety admirabilis occurs on the southern Rocky Mountains of Wyoming and Colorado and in the La Sal Mountains of Utah.
