34b. Crataegus reverchonii Sargent var. mohrii (Beadle) J. B. Phipps, J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas. 1: 1006. 2007.

Crataegus mohrii Beadle, Bot. Gaz. 28: 416. 1899 (as mohri); C. denaria Beadle

Shrubs, 10–30 dm. Short-shoot leaf blades 2–3.5 cm, not usually drying dark. Inflorescences often pilose. Flowers 12 mm diam.; styles 3–5.

Flowering Apr; fruiting Sep–Oct. Habitat not recorded, probably brush; 10–200 m; Ala., Ga., Miss., Tenn.

Variety mohrii is recorded with certainty only east of the Mississippi River; it is perhaps very rare. In the co-type, Beadle 236A, the inflorescences may be glabrous or pilose The relatively small, short leaves, small flowers, 3–5 styles, and broadly elliptic to suborbiculate extension-shoot leaves clearly mark var. mohrii as a member of the reverchonii group. Variety mohrii is notable for its strongly and sharply serrate leaf margins.
