Leaf blades broadly elliptic, 3–5 cm, adaxial surface sparsely to densely appressed-pubescent young, glabrescent. Inflorescence branches glabrous. Flowers: hypanthium glabrous.
Flowering May–Jun; fruiting Sep–Oct. Brush, roadsides, woodland edges; of conservation concern; 20–200 m; Ont.; Conn., Mass., Vt.
Variety cyclophylla grows in southern New England and eastern Ontario.
