Herbage sparsely hairy, hairs appressed. Stems ascending-decumbent, to 20–30 cm. Leaves not in basal rosettes; blade apices acute. Bracts 1.5–4 mm wide, apex acute.
Flowering Apr–Jun. Dry, grassy sites, open scrub, woodlands; 10–400 m; Calif.
Subspecies episcopalis intergrades with Calystegia atriplicifolia subsp. buttensis and C. collina subsp. venusta.
