Shrubs or trees, 1-10 m. Buds caprea-type. Leaves: stipules on late ones rudimentary or foliaceous; largest medial blade 1.9-9.6 times as long as wide, adaxial surface not glaucous. Staminate flowers: filaments glabrous. Pistillate flowers: adaxial nectary shorter than stipe; stipe 0.4-2.4 mm; ovary glabrous; stigmas with flat, non-papillate abaxial surface, or stigmas plump, 0.1-0.6 mm.
Species 5 (3 in the flora): North America, Mexico.
