Perennial stout herbs. Roots fibrous. Stems creeping and rooting on lower side. Leaves clustered on the apical part of stem; blade elliptic-lanceolate, base attenuate; sheath cylindrical, margin ciliate. Inflorescence densely capitate, perforate the leaf-sheath; flowers bisexual, actinomorphic; sepals 3, free, cucullate; petals 3, free, obovate-oblanceolate; stamens 6, all bisexual, subequal, anther longitudinal dehiscent, filaments with moniliform hairs; ovary trilocular; capsule 3-valved, ellipsoid, locules 2-seeded, sometimes 1 in each locule; seeds rugose, embryotega semilateral, hilum curved.
Species ca. 20, in tropical Africa and Asia; one species in Taiwan.
Forrestia屬名首度用以命名鼠李科植物，故Forrestia Less. et A. Rich.為晚出同名，應該廢棄，因此本屬植物採用Amischotolype為屬名。
