Perennial or annual herbs, small, often creeping. Stems branched at base, branches spreading. Leaves alternate, pinnatifid or pinnatisect, entire or toothed. Heads small, solitary, terminal, pedunculate, yellow, heterogamous, disciform. Outer florets pistillate, in 1-several series, fertile, corolla wanting. Central disc florets bisexual, fertile, corolla tubular, limb 4-lobed. Involucre hemispheric or campanulate, bracts in ca 2 series, herbaceous or membranaceous, margins often scarious. Achenes ovate, stipitate, compressed, with or without a short, ear-shaped pappus.

Fifty-five species mainly in the southern hemisphere; one species in Taiwan.
