Shrubs or small trees 1.5-10 m tall, unarmed, stellate tomentose overall. Leaves solitary, entire, ovate, 8-25 cm long, 3-12 cm wide, apically acute or acuminate, basally rounded or obtuse; petioles to 10 cm long. Inflorescences branched, many-flowered, erect, flat-topped, and held above the foliage. Flower buds turbinoid; calyx tomentose outside, lobed halfway, the lobes ovate or acute; corolla white, 10-17 mm long, lobed more than halfway; filaments 1-1.5 mm long, anthers 2-3 mm long, ovary stellate-tomentose, style glabrous. Berry yellow, 1.2 cm across, stellate-pubescent; seeds discoid, 1-2 mm across.

Native of South America, widespread in tropical Asia and Oceania. Taiwan, roadsides, river banks at 300-2100 m elevation.
