Unarmed shrubs; pubescence of simple and branched hairs. Leaves narrowly oblong to lanceolate, 1-6 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm wide, apically acute or obtuse, basally cuneate, decurrent, entire or sinuate, pubescent or glabrous; petiole 2-5 mm long. Inflorescences leaf opposed or extra axillary, solitary (rarely paired) flowers or short racemes; peduncle short or obsolete; pedicel 3-4 mm long. Flowers with calyx 4 mm across, the lobes 1.5 mm long; corolla white or mauve, 0.8-1.5 cm across, lobed about halfway; filaments less than 1 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2 mm long. Berry orange red, fleshy, 1.2-1.5(-2) cm across; seeds discoid, 2-3 mm across.

Cultivated for its ornamental fruits appearance and fruits. Taiwan, persistent after cultivation, ca. 1,000 m alt.
