Aster trinervius var. scandens Hayata
Perennial suffrutescent erect herbs with long stoloniferous rhizomes. Stems terete, 40-110 cm tall, rarely flexuous, glabrous or scarcely pubescent upward, branching upward. Radical leaves withering at anthesis. Cauline leaves distinctly 3-nerved, nearly glabrous or scarcely puberulous on both surfaces, middle leaves 4-12 cm long, 2-4 cm broad, ovate-oblong or oblong-lanceolate, apex acuminate or attenuate acuminate, base sharply narrowed, attenuate-cuneate, subsessile or short-petiolate, margins serrate with 4-8 pairs of shallow teeth; upper leaves smaller. Heads few to numerous in loose corymbs, 1.5-2 cm across, peduncle 2-10 mm long. Involucre campanulate to hemispheric, 3-4.5 mm tall, 4.5-6 mm across, bracts 3- or 4- seriate, green or purplish, herbaceous, somewhat scarious, 1-nerved adaxially, narrowly lanceolate, apex obtuse to acute, entire, glabrous or scarcely hirsute on outside, margins usually ciliolate, inner bracts gradually longer, 3-4.5 mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide; outer bracts 1.7-2 mm long, 0.8-1.3 mm wide. Ray florets 10-15, ligules usually white, rarely purplish, 5-8 mm long, 0.8-1.4 mm wide. Disc florets, yellow. Pappus dirty white or reddish, 4-5 mm long at maturity. Achenes lanceolate-obovate, compressed, pale brown, 2-3 mm long, 0.7-1.2 mm wide, sericeous. Fl. Sep-Feb. Chromosome number, 2n = 18, 36 , 37(Soejima & Peng, Bot. Bull. Acad. Sin. 39: 299-302. 1998).
