Stem 40-70 cm long, erect, usually simple, densely crisp puberulent. Leaves lanceolate, lower cauline ones smaller, median rather thick, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 6-12×1-2 cm, apex narrowly obtuse, mucronulate, base abruptly cuneate, short petiolate or subsessile, sometimes deeply 3-cleft, usually distinctly 3-nerved, upper surface green, lower surface pale, with resinous glandular dots, prominently crisp pubescent on both surfaces, margins sparsely and irregularly dentate; upper leaves smaller and narrower. Inflorescence of more or less compact corymbs, 6-9 cm broad; heads 4-5 mm long, 5-flowered; involucre cylindric, 4-5 mm long, bracts ca. 10, 2-seriate. Achenes cylindric, ca. 2.5 mm long, 5-angular; pappus white.
