    Plants 10-25 cm high. Rhizome subterranean, pale brown, fleshy, fusiform or moniliform, 2-6 cm long, 6-10 mm thick. Roots few to many, from apex of rhizome, filiform, slender, ca. 1 mm thick, often with many small globose thickenings. Peduncle pale brown or whitish, 6-20 cm long, 2-3 mm in diam., nearly glabrous, with 3-5 scarious scales; flowering portion of raceme 4-8 cm long; bracts ovate, 2 mm long, acute; pedicel and ovary 8-12 mm long, triagonal in cross section, glabrous. Flowers few-20, white, opening successively; sepals and petals connate at base into floral tube ca. 8-10 mm long; dorsal sepal and petals connate for 2/3 their length, petals shorter, lateral sepals connate for half their length, whole structure united with petals 1/3 its length, free apex reflexed, 2-lobed, lobules semiorbicular; lip obtriangular when expanded, 4-5 mm long, 6-7 mm wide, erect or incurved on both sides, apex truncate, base cuneate, disc with longitudinal raised keel of warty papillae; column white, ca. 5 mm long, apex enlarged, with 2 truncate square wings, base expanded into short foot ca. 2 mm long; anther oval or orbicular, white, ca. 1 mm across; pollinia white, soft, ellipsoid, 0.8 mm long, connected by broad viscidium detached from rostellum. Capsules ellipsoid to cylindrical, 2-4 cm long, triagonal in cross section, pedicel 10-20 cm long, 2-3.5 mm in diam., hollow, fleshy. Seeds linear, 1-2 mm long.

    Southern Japan, Indochina, the Himalaya, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia. Taiwan, thickets in central and southern mountainous regions and in coastal areas at low elevations.
