    Perennial rhizomatous erect herbs, stems sulcate-striate, 50-100 cm tall, sparsely branched, strigose and rough to touch. Radical leaves withering at anthesis. Cauline leaves linear-oblong to oblanceolate, 2.5-3.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, apex acute or obtuse, base cuneate into short petiole or leaves sessile, entire or coarsely dentate on upper margin, scabrous on both surfaces, margins scabrous-ciliate; upper leaves gradually smaller, linear-lanceolate, subentire. Heads solitary or few in loose corymbiform inflorescences, 6-8 mm tall, 8-10 mm across. Involucre hemispheric, 5.8-6.1 mm long, 6.6-8.2 mm wide, bracts in 3 or 4 series, green, oblanceolate, triangular, acute, sparsely pubescent apically, margins submembranaceous, ciliate, inner bracts gradually longer 3.8-6 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, outer bracts 3-3.5 mm long, 1-2 mm wide. Receptacle conical. Ray florets 15-20, 1-seriate, sometimes 2-seriate, ligules bluish purple, 6-12 mm long, 2-3 mm wide. Disc florets 4 mm long, 5-lobed, yellow, 4.5 mm long. Pappus reddish, 0.3-0.5 mm. Achenes dark brownish, obovate, compressed, 1.2-2.5 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide, sparsely pubescent, with sparse sessile glands apically. Fl. Dec-Apr. Chromosome number, 2n = 108 (Gu, Cathaya 1: 5. 1989).

    Central to southeast China. Taiwan, grassy slopes near seaside, often in cemeteries.
