Prenanthes lanceolata Houtt.
Stems stout, woody, short, rhizome-like, few-branched, with a tuft of rosulate leaves at apex. Flowering branches lateral, decumbent. Radical leaves thick, ovate to spatulate, rarely elliptic, 5-15×0.5-4.5 cm, apex obtuse, rarely rounded, narrowed at base into winged petiole, margins entire, or irregularly dentate or lobed, sometimes slightly to deeply pinnatifid, glabrous on both surfaces; petiole 2-3 mm wide. Cauline leaves: lower ones spatulate-oblong to linear-lanceolate, median ones oblong to lanceolate, upper ones ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse, 4-5×0.5-2 cm, clasping at base. Flowering branches 10-40 cm long. Heads many, corymbose, yellow, ca. 1.5 cm across; peduncle slender, 3-9 mm long. Involucre 8-9×3-5 mm, glabrous, outer bracts much shorter, 4-seriate, ovate, 1-1.2 cm long. Florets 8-12; corolla yellow, 9-10×1.8 mm. Achenes 2.5-4×0.8 mm, 10-15 ribbed. Pappus white, 3-4 mm long. Chromosome number, 2n = 10 (Peng & Hsu, 1978).
