Myrmechis sasakii Yamam.
Plants 5-7 cm tall. Underground rhizomes branched repeatedly, without common roots, bearing only hairs around nodes or internodes. Stems ascending, 2-6 cm long, leafy upward. Leaves ovate or ovate-orbicular, pale green, 1-1.8 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide, apex acute, obtuse or rounded at base, slightly wavy and crisped at margins. Inflorescence nearly sessile when young, peduncle elongated rapidly at anthesis, to 3 cm long, densely hairy, 1-3 flowers loosely, often 1 or 2 flowers well developed; bracts glabrous abaxially, more or less ciliate near margins. Flowers resupinate, white; ovary glabrous, bent forward at apex; sepals lanceolate-ovate, slightly connate at base, not spreading, sepal-tube ventricose, dorsal one ovate, concave, 6-8 mm long, lateral ones obliquely ovate, 6-8 mm long, petals obliquely rhombic-elliptic, 6-8 mm long, appressed to dorsal sepal and forming hood, hood bent backward near apex; lip exserted beyond sepal-tube, Y-shaped, 7-10 mm long, tripartite, hypochile saccate, with 2 callous papillae inside, mesochile canaliculate, gradually attenuate then expanding and turning into epichile, epichile slightly bent downward, divergently bilobed, lobules rectangular or triangular, 1.5-2 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide; column 2 mm long, bent at apex, with 2 conical ventral appendages; anther triangular-ovate; pollinia with short caudicle, attached to large viscidium; viscidium embraced by rostellum, reflexed at base.
