Cacalia bicolor Roxb. ex Willd.
Herbs, perennial, spreading decumbent to erect. Stems fleshy, slightly woody at base, much branched, leafy throughout. Leaves obovate to oblanceolate, 5-10 cm long, apex acute, margins irregularly serrate, sometimes lower leaves pinnatifid; petiole of lower leaves expanding into an auriculate base clasping stem, upper leaves sessile, base auriculate. Heads many, in corymbs, to 2 cm long, florets orange-yellow. Involucral bracts glabrous, narrowly linear to filiform; anther base entire or minutely sagittate, style arms slender, appendages long, subulate, pubescent. Achenes cylindric, 10-15-ribbed, glabrous or pubescent. Pappus copious. Chromosome number, 2n = 20 (Peng & Hsu, 1978).

Himalaya from northwest India to islands of eastern Asia. Taiwan, cultivated as a vegetable, rarely escaped.
