Plants perennial, densely tufted, 6--15 cm tall. Rhizome short. Stems thin. Cataphylls 1 or 2. Basal and cauline leaves many; leaf sheath 1--1.3 cm, auricles conspicuous; leaf blade hairlike, 8--9 cm. Inflorescences terminal; head solitary, usually 2- or 3-flowered; bracts ovate, 2--3 × ca. 1.2 mm, membranous; basal bract longer than flowers. Perianth segments yellowish, lanceolate, 3.1--3.8 × 1--1.4 mm, subequal, margin scarious, apex obtuse. Stamens 6; filaments 3.5--4.2 mm; anthers 1.1--1.5 mm. Style ca. 0.7 mm; stigmas ca. 0.8 mm. Capsule brownish, trigonous obovoid to trigonous oblong, 4.5--5 mm, apex mucronate. Seeds ca. 2 mm, both ends appendaged; appendages caudate. Fl. Jun--Jul, fr. Aug.
