Herbs, perennial, 0.3-2 m. Stems usually erect, sometimes decumbent or procumbent and rooting at nodes. Leaves opposite, petiolate; leaf blade triangular to deltate or ovate, 2-7(-13) × 1.5-3 cm, base usually cuneate to truncate, rarely subcordate, margin serrate to serrate-dentate or crenate, apex acute. Phyllaries 3.5-4 mm; corollas blue to blue-violet or rosy violet, (1.6-)2-2.5 mm. Achenes 1-1.5 mm, glabrous; pappus setae not dilated at apices. Fl. and fr. Aug-Oct.
Cultivated and escaped, now growing in wet areas on slopes and roadsides. Guizhou, Yunnan [native to United States].
