Silene viscidula Komarov, Trudy Imp. S.-Peterburgsk. Obshch. Estestvoisp., Vyp. 3, Otd. Bot. 26: 129. 1896, not Franchet (1886).

Herbs perennial, 50--70 cm tall. Stems sparsely caespitose, erect, branched, basally shortly pubescent, apically viscid. Basal leaves spatulate or lanceolate, 6--8 cm × 5--10 mm, both surfaces hairy, shortly ciliate, marcescent, base attenuate into long petiole; cauline leaves with short, sterile axillary branches, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate. Flowers in a slender, racemiform thyrse. Pedicel 5--10 mm, sparsely pubescent; bracts lanceolate, submembranous, sparsely villous, apex acute. Calyx tubular-clavate, 8--12 × 2--3 mm, glabrous or sparsely villous, inflated in fruit. Androgynophore 2--3 mm in fruit, glabrous. Petal claws narrowly oblanceolate, glabrous, without obvious auricles; limb pale yellowish white, narrowly obovate, margin entire or slightly emarginate; coronal scales minute. Stamens and styles exserted. Styles 3. Capsule ovoid, 7--9 mm. Seeds reniform, ca. 1 mm. Fl. Jun, fr. Jul--Aug.

Dry steppes; 500--1100 m. Xinjiang [Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan].
