31a. Astragalus "Caprini group"

短缩茎群 duan suo jing qun

Plants acaulescent to caulescent. Leaflets always in pairs, in upper part glabrous or hairy but never cottonlike. Calyx tubular or campanulate. Petals glabrous or rarely hairy; wings and especially keel mostly distinctly shorter than standard, wing limbs rounded at apex, auricles of wings mostly short, rarely up to 3 mm; limbs of keel straight or ± triangular, never with minute teeth at upper edge. Legumes of very different sizes.

About 195 species: from Europe and N Africa to Siberia, China, and India; 14 species (three endemic) in China.
