5. Senecio sect. Senecio
千里光组 qian li guang zu
Herbs, annual (in China), erect. Leaves usually pinnately divided. Capitula radiate or discoid. Phyllaries free or connate. Anthers obtusely ± auriculate at base; antheropodia small, basally somewhat to distinctly dilated. Achene epidermal cells papillose, cuticle thin, mechanical tissues in 9-11 distinct tracts, elliptic in cross section. Pappus often dimorphic, with apically fluked as well as tapered hairs, present in all florets.
Maybe ca. 1,000 species: worldwide (except Antarctica); eight species (two endemic) in China.
