黄牛毛藓

Plants minute to small, 0.5–1.0 cm high, green or yellowish green, somewhat shiny, caespitose or in loose tufts. Stems erect, often simple, sparsely radiculose at base. Leaves often crowded at the tips of stems, flexuous or homomallous, lanceolate, 4.0–7.5 mm long, rather abruptly narrowed from an oblong-ovate base to a long, slender acumen; margins plane, entire below, serrulate near the apex; costa rather broad, flat, filling most of the subula, percurrent to shortly excurrent; upper cells narrowly rectangular; lower cells elongate, 26–40 µm × 5–6 µm at the shoulder and at the basal marginal rows (2–3 rows), becoming broader near the costa, 26–50 µm × 10–15 µm. Autoicous. Pericheatial leaves larger and sheathing at base. Setae slender, straight, 2–4(–5) cm long, yellow or reddish brown; capsules oblong-ovoid, suberect, asymmetric, 2–4 mm long, yellowish brown, contracted below the mouth; opercula conic-rostrate; annuli in 2–3 rows of large and thick-walled cells; peristome teeth linear, 0.4–0.9 mm long, slightly twisted above, densely papillose. Spores 16–20 µm in diameter, yellowish brown, papillose.

Habitat: on soil; Distribution: China, Japan, Europe, North America, and Central Africa.

Ditrichum pallidum var. sinense Thér. was reported from China (Redfearn et al. 1996). The type of this species was not seen, therefore, its taxonomic status is uncertain.
