Plants medium-sized to large, 3–6 cm high, brownish green or golden brown, somewhat shiny, in dense tufts. Stems erect, often dichotomously branched, radiculose below; central strand present. Leaves 7–9 mm long, linear-lanceolate, rather abruptly narrowed from an ovate, slightly concave base to a very long, canaliculate and setaceous subula; margins slightly incurved below, serrulate to serrate above the middle, especially near the apex; costa yellowish brown, occupying ca. 1/3 the leaf base width, excurrent in a very long awn, smooth at back; upper cells linear, slightly thick-walled; lower cells rectangular, thick-walled, porose, broader close to the costa, becoming narrower and linear toward the margins, with 3–6 marginal rows; alar cells not forming auricles, not inflated, fragile, hyaline. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves sheathing at base, with shorter tips. Setae straight when dry, sinuose when moist, ca. 10 mm long, yellowish brown; capsules erect, ovoid, ca. 2 mm × 1 mm, brownish; peristome teeth dicranoid, reddish. Spores 12–15 µm in diameter, brownish.

Type. China: Guizhou, Pin-fa, Fortunat s.n., 1904 (holotype PC).

Habitat: on bases of trees or soil; Distribution: China, India, and Hawaii.
