Plants rather small, less than 5 mm high, yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems very short, only ca. 0.8 mm long, simple, densely foliate. Leaves lanceolate with a broad base, gradually acuminate at the apex; margins plane, entire; costa stout, ending near the apex; upper leaf cells quadrate to hexagonal, somewhat thick-walled, smooth; basal cells rectangular, thin-walled, smooth. Dioicous. Setae ca. 2 mm long; capsules erect, elliptic-cylindrical; peristome teeth short, densely papillose. Spores spherical, smooth.
Type. China: Yunnan, Yang-bi Co., Handel-Mazzetti 13008 (holotype H).
Specimens examined: HUBEI: Sheng-nong-jia (Mt.), G.-C. Zhang 18577 (HKAS, IFSBH). LIAONING: An-shan City, Qian Shan (Mt.), X.-J. Li 77008 (HKAS); Ben-xi Co., C. Gao 1102 (HKAS, IFSBH). XIZANG: Jiang-zi Co., M. Zang 824, 830 (HKAS).
Habitat: on calcareous rocks, thin soil over rocks in alpine regions or glaciers; Distribution: endemic to China.
