Shrub or small tree. Leaves coriaceous, obliquely penninerved. Inflorescence an axillary subracemose, clustered cyme with sessile to subsessile flowers. Flowers white or pink, fragrant. Sepals 5, free, eglandular. Corolla 5-lobed, hypocrateriform; throat dilated; tube cylindrical. Stamens 5, attached at apex of the tube; anthers lanceolate-ovate, obtuse or acute, not connivent with stigma; connective larger than the anther, and projected into a point. Disc absent. Style filiform; stigma oblong, 2-lobed. Ovule 1-4 in each locule. Fruit berry, globose 1-2 seeded.

The genus includes about 15 species distributed mainly in South Africa, Tropical East Africa and Arabia. Represented in Pakistan by one cultivated species.
