Annual or biennial. Leaves petiolate, pinnately divided; pinnae variously lobed. Peduncles short or sometimes lacking. Bracts and bractlets present or lacking. Rays few. Flowers white to greenish white. Calyx teeth minute to obso¬lete. Fruit oval to almost orbicular ,flattened laterally, glabrous; ridges thin; furrows 1-vittate; commissure 2-vittate. Inner seed face plane.
A genus of about 30 species with a wide distribution in both of the hemis¬pheres. The plants frequently grow in moist places.
