Small herbs, 10-25(-30) cm long. Tunica of bulb tubular, elongated upward. Foliage leaves alternate, linear. Stem as long as radical leaves, leafy above with 4-5 spirally arranged cauline leaves, linear or linear-lanceolate. Inflorescence umbelliform, often flower solitary. Flowers bracteate, bract learf-l ike, pedicellate, campanulate or infundibular. Tepals 6, in 2 whorls, persistent. Nectary indistinct. Filaments sometimes hairy, anthers pseudobasifixed. Style distinct, stigma capitate or trilobate. Capsule subglobose, pericarp papery. Seeds flattened, thickened at the margin.
A genus with c. 20 species, distributed in temperate regions of Northern Hemisphere; represented in Pakistan by 3 species.
