Herbs, 8-25 (-30) cm long. Bulbs 3-6 x 0.5-1 cm, narrowly ovoid, scales fibrous. Radical leaves 5-8, 8-25 x 0.1-0.2 cm, linear, tip blunt. Cauline leaves 3-5, 1.5-3 cm in the upper portion, longer in the lower portion, up to 9 cm. Flower solitary or 2-3 flowered raceme. Pedicel 0.5-1.5 cm. Perianth campanulate. Tepals 1.5-2.0 cm, white with orange reddish or brownish basal spot, base hairy. Filaments often unequal, 2-6 mm, hairy, white, anthers 1-2.5 mm, white. Ovary 3-5 mm long; style 3.5-5 mm long, stigma capitate.

Distribution: Kashmir, India (Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh), Nepal, Bhutan and China (Xizang and Yunnan).
Recorded from Xizang by Hara (in Ohashi, Bull. Univ. Mus. Univ. Tokyo 8: 133. 1975 and S. Dasgupta & Deb. l.c.) and from N. W. Yunnan by Handel-Mazzetti (Symb. Sin. 7:1202. 1936) but Xinqi & Turland (in Zhengyi & P. H. Raven, Fl. China 24: 121. 2000) regard these reports as doubtful.
