Annual herbs. Leaves linear, entire. Flowers spicate, usually bisexual, white. Petals 2, posterior. Stamens 3-8, free or united at the base. Disc absent. Capsule ovoid, apex 3-4 cuspidate. Seeds ovoid, glossy, numerous.
A genus with 9 species distributed in SW. USA, N. & S. Africa, Middle East to Pakistan and India. Represented locally by 1 species only.
