Perennial herbs with hispid parts. Leaves both opposite and alternate. Flowers solitary or in terminal short racemes. Calyx 5-fid or partite, accrescent in fruit. Corolla hypocrateriform, rotate to funnelform. Throat scales absent. Stamens 5; anthers prominent, connivent into a cone, apex acuminate. Ovary not deeply 4-lobed. Style slender, stigma obscure. Nutlets smooth to hirsute or rugose.
Species 40-45, tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Australia. Represented in Pakistan by 4 species.
