Perennial, tall erect herbs. Rootstock woody, rhizomatous, Stem 40-50 cm long, sparsely pilose to glabrescent, branched above the middle. Basal leaves 5-7 foliate, petioles long, 12-15 cm, upper ternate, sparsely pilose. Basal stipules membranous with oblong-lanceolate auricles, upper stipules leafy and green. Leaflets oblong-obovate to elliptic-oblong, 4-6 x 2.0-3.5 cm, deeply 12-24 serrate-dentate, sparsely pilose above and below. Flowers 1.2-1.4 cm diam., arranged in dichotomous cymes, pedicels 2-3 cm long. Sepals sparsely adpressed pilose, subequal, outer linear-lanceolate, subobtuse, inner ovate, acute. Stamens about 20. Carpels numerous arranged on swollen hairy receptacle. Styles subterminal, 1.2-1.4 mm long, thickened and slightly papillose below. Achenes ridged.
Type: Described from cultivated plant (PR).
A rare species known only from few localities in Kashmir and Pakistan (Northern Areas), collected between 3000 – 3,600 m.
