Perennial herb. Bulb narrowly ovoid or cylindric, with scarious dark brown tunic; many bulbils present outside the tunic. Stem erect, glabrous or subglabrous. Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, sessile, linear to linear- lanceolate. Inflorescence a terminal raceme, few to many flowered. Bracts linear. Flowers funnel-shaped to campanulate. Tepals blue, purple or red. Stamens inserted at the base of tepals, anthers dorsifixed, versatile. Ovules many per locule. Style columnar, long, stigma 3-lobed. Fruit a loculicidal capsule. Seeds narrowly winged all round.
A genus with 5 species distributed in W. Asia, Himalayas to Western China; represented in Pakistan by only one species.
