Syntypes: Described from W. Europe, Herb. Cliff. (BM); Herb. Linn. 1017.20 (LINN).
Distribution: Widespread in Eurasia and N America, introduced and naturalized in Australia and New Zealand.
An extremely polymorphic species presenting much variation in the size of leaves, degree of hairiness of different plant parts, colour of florets and shape and size of ligules of ray-florets. Three subspecies have been recognized by Podlech, l.c. Two of them occur in Pakistan: subsp. millefolium and subsp. chitralensis.
