Astragalus tribulifolius Benth. ex Bunge, Astrag. 1:4. 1868. 2:2.1869 Baker in Hook.f.,Fl.Brit.Ind.2:120.1876; Ali in Biologia 7:10.1961.

Prostrate (?). Root woody. Branches ribbed, pilose, hairs white. Stipules lateral, free, c. 3-5 mm long, obovate, hairy on the margins, hairs spreading, Leaf imparipinnately compound, c. 2-4 cm long, petiole c. 3 mm or less. Leaflets 13-19, opposite, petiolule c. 0.5 mm, lamina c. 2.5-11.0 mm long, c. 1.5-4.5 mm broad, glabrous above, pilose below, obovate-elliptical, margin entire, tip acute-obtuse. Inflorescence an axillary peduncled raceme; peduncle c. 2.0-3.0 cm, pilose, hairs white and black. Bracts c. 3-4 mm long, pilose, hairs black and white. Pedicel c. 1 mm long, pilose, hairs black and white. Calyx c. 4 mm long, pilose, hairs black and white, spreading, teeth c. 2-2.5 mm. Corolla deep purple, with small white spot at base of vexillum. Vexillum c. 8-11 mm long. Wing c. 7-8 mm long. keel c. 8.5 mm long. Fruit stipitate, stipe c. 2 mm long, fruit c. 9-14 mm long, c. 5-6 mm broad, elliptical with acute ends; pilose hairs white or white and black; unilocular, becoming pseudobilocular by the intrusion from the upper suture; many seeded.

Holotype: W. Tibet, 16000 ft., Thomson (K).

Distribution: Kashmir; Tibet; Sikkim; China (Kansu, Szechuan).
