Commicarpus chinensis (Linn.) Heimerl in Engler & Prantl, Nat. Pflanzenf. ed. 2, 16. 117. 1934.

  • Boerhavia chinensis (Linn.) Aschers & Schweinf.
  • Boerhavia repanda Willd.
  • Valeriana chinensis Linn.

    Stem diffuse, scandant, glabrous. Leaves cordate to ovate, subacuminate, sinuate to repand. Stamens 3-4, exserted. Anthocarp 8-8.5 mm long, clavate, slightly ribbed, covered with viscid glands.

    Fl. Per.: usually Oct.-Dec.

    Type locality: China, Osbeck (LINN).

    Distribution: Burma, Malesia, S. India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

    A scandent plant usually found staggling on hedges and bushes. Resembles Commicarpus boissieri (Heimerl) Cufod. in the foliage and inflorescence, but differs in the larger flowers and fruit which is uniformly covered with glands.
