Clematis barbellata var. obtusa Kitam. & TamuraClematis nepaulensis auct. non DC.: Royle
Scandent, glabrous shrub. Stem often suffussed purple, terete. Leaves ternate, leaflets 5-7 x 2-4 cm, ovate, ± acuminate, short petiolate, lobate or incised-dentate or serrate. Flowers axillary, single on peduncles with two small bracteoles. Sepals violet, 22-28 mm, ovate to ovate-oblong, acuminate with often an inflexed top, velvety hairy on both sides. Filaments flattened, broadly linear, hairy. Anthers introrse, slightly beaded, dorsally hairy. Achenes glabrous. Style up to 4 cm, plumose-ciliate.
Type: Himalaya: Chur, in forests, 8000-9000 ft., Junio, Edgeworth.
Distribution: Temperate Himalaya from Kashmir eastward to Nepal. Reportedly collected by Harsukh from Waziristan (tide R.R. Stewart, l.c.).
