Plants 1-3 m tall. Stem stout, glabrous, branched. Leaf bases large, sheath¬ing. Leaves 3-pinnate; pinnae lanceolate to oval, 1-3 cm long, pinnatipartite to pinnatisect. Involucre of 5-12 long linear, white margined bracts. Umbel base pubescent. Rays 30 or more, 4-8 cm long, scabrid or minutely pubescent. Bractlets similar to the involucral bracts. Base of the flowering umbellet pubescent. Pedicels 5-15 mm long. Calyx teeth linear. Fruit broadly oblong to sub-quadrate, 4-6 mm long; ridges winged; dorsal furrows 1-vittate, lateral 1-(2)-vittate; commissure 4-vittate. Inner seed face slightly concave.
Type: Nepal, Wallich 582 (K).
Distribution: Himalayas in Kashmir, Nepal and Kumaon.
This species grows from 2500 to 3500 m in the Himalayas but has not been collected from W. Pakistan. It is to be expected.
