Mimosa virgata L.
A nearly glabrous erect shrub, branches long slender, twigs green, ribbed. Leaves alternate, bipinnate, stipulate, stiuples subulate. Rachis c.1.2-4.0 cm long, with a large gland at the base of the petiole, prolonged beyond the last pair of pinnae as a short soft bristle. Pinnae 2-5 pairs, up to 1.2-2.5 cm long. Leaflets 12-18 pairs sessile c. 3-4 mm long, oblong, very oblique. Flowers in globose, axillary pedunculate heads, peduncle 1.2-2.0 cm long, flowers yellowish white, sessile, bracteate, bract cuspidate. Calyx tubular-campanulate, c.2-3 mm long, glabrous. Corolla c.2-5 mm long. Stamens 10, free, anthers eglandular. Ovary sessile, glabrous, style filiform, stigma clavate. Pods 5-7.5 cm long, c. 2-3 mm broad, linear, compressed, glabrous, sutures slightly thickened, dehiscent. Seeds 20-30, placed obliquely.

Distribution: Native of tropical America, naturalized in Punjab.
