Perennial with a woody base, up to 1 m tall, glabrous, glaucous; branches usually slender, elongated, pale green. Lower leaves shortly stalked, broadly elliptic or obovate, 3-8 cm long, 2-5 cm broad, acute or submucronate; upper leaves small, ovate-oblong or broadly linear, sessile, auricled, semiamplexicaul, acute; all leaves thick, fleshy or coriaceous, glabrous, glaucous, entire. Racemes 12-25-flowered, lax, branched, up to 30 cm long in fruit, ebracteate. Flowers 10-15 mm across, violet or pinkish, rarely white; pedicel 3-4 mm long, hardly increasing in fruit, and hardly thickened, ascending. Sepals 6-8 mm long, 1.5-2 mm broad. Petals 15-20 mm long, 4-5 mm broad, long clawed with an elliptic limb. Stamens 6-8: 9-11 mm long; anthers about 3 mm long. Ovary 4 ovuled, 2 in each locule. Siliculae 10-15 (-20) mm long, 4-6 mm borad, biarticulated; upper part 10-12 mm long, 4-6 mm broad, subglobose with a beak about as long as the body, bilocular with a thick, yellowish septum, 1-2-seeded, valves thick, glabrous, coriaceous; lower part very short, 2-3 mm long, 1 mm broad, stalk-like, sterile, bilocular, usually valves separating and a portion (or all) of the septum remaining attached to the pedicel when the valves fall; seeds oblong-ellipsoid, c. 2 mm long, brown.

Type: W. Pakistan: Sind, Brahuic hills, Stocks 515 (K).

Distribution: W. Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.

Apparently indistinct from the following species, except by the number of ovules in the ovary; mature fruits bear 1-2 seeds in both the species.

It is browsed by camel and goats and the leaves are cooked as a vegetable by poorer people.
